Cara Phillips has picked up on Christian Patterson’s recent post that announced, essentially, that he is quitting blogging for the indeterminate future. Unlike Cara, I don’t see that much elitism in Patterson’s decision, or, if I do, I more or less agree with it. There ARE a lot of people writing very similar blogs. Some ideas ARE more valid and useful than others, although Cara’s correct in that everyone has an equal right to express those ideas.
Here’s what I think is sort of funny about Patterson’s decision to take a rest. He feels that there are too many people blogging now, that most of them are saying the same thing and it’s not worth sifting the grain from the chaff anymore. And so he’s going to dedicate himself to a radically different field, one where that’s not a problem whatsoever…photography?
